We help colleges and universities modernize the systems that run their institutions — student information, HR, and finance — through ERP/SIS implementation, integration, digital transformation, CRM, and cybersecurity work.  

We are building our first engineering Center of Excellence in Pune. This is a founding-team role. You will not be joining a large delivery pool with a fixed process; you will help set how this team builds.  

The Role  

This is a hands-on SQL and reporting role for someone who enjoys working with complex data and transforming business requirements into meaningful reports, dashboards, and data solutions.

You will work across large Oracle and PostgreSQL environments, designing data models, building reporting solutions, and supporting data warehouses that enable institutional decision-making. While the role includes client interaction, the primary focus is on data analysis, SQL development, and business intelligence.

We are not looking for someone who has simply used SQL. We want a BI professional who can independently analyze complex schemas, build robust reporting solutions, and translate business requirements into trusted data products. Higher education experience is not required; strong SQL, data modeling, and reporting expertise are.

APIs Are the Core of This Work  

If there is one thing to take from this description, it is this: your primary skill is working with APIs.  

Ellucian exposes a very large API surface across its student, HR, and finance platforms. A significant part of the job is knowing that catalog — reading a business requirement, working out which APIs actually serve that function, understanding what each one returns and what it does not, and then writing the code that meets the requirement. Nobody hands you a mapping from business need to endpoint. You build that understanding, and it becomes some of the most valuable knowledge you carry.  

The second half is API security. These APIs move student records, employee data, and financial transactions. You need to understand authentication and authorization flows, how tokens and scopes work, and how to request only the access an integration genuinely needs. Getting this wrong is not a bug — it is a data exposure.  

We are looking for depth here, not familiarity.  Someone who has run a few SELECT statements will struggle. Someone who has written, tuned, and debugged complex SQL against real schemas and designed the models behind it will do well.

What You Will Do  

• Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries in Oracle and PostgreSQL.
  
• Translate reporting requirements into reports, dashboards, and data extracts.
  
• Design and maintain data models, data warehouses, and ETL/data integration processes.
  
• Develop BI solutions using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Cognos, or similar platforms.
  
• Validate and reconcile data across multiple systems and large relational datasets.
  
• Partner with clients and stakeholders to gather requirements, present solutions, and support delivery.
  
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and solution quality.

Required Qualifications  

• 4–7 years of experience in Business Intelligence, SQL development, reporting, data engineering, or related fields.
• Advanced SQL expertise, including query optimization, performance tuning, indexing, and execution plans.
• Experience with Oracle SQL and/or PostgreSQL.
• Strong data modeling experience, including normalized (3NF) and dimensional/star schema design.
• Experience building or supporting data warehouses and ETL/data integration processes.
• Hands-on experience with BI and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Cognos, or similar.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications  

• Experience with cloud data platforms and modern ETL/ELT tools.
• Experience using AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar in a professional environment.
• Experience supporting ERP, SIS, HRMS, or Finance systems.
• Prior exposure to Higher Education technology or Ellucian solutions (Banner, Colleague, ODS, EDW) is a plus, but not required.

What we need from you is the ability to absorb a new domain fast and start contributing inside two months.  

Working Hours  

Flexible schedule with a Tuesday - Thursday overlap requirement of 3–4 hours with US Eastern morning, 2:00 - 10:00 PM IST.  Outside that overlap window, you manage your own hours. We care about what you deliver, not when you are logged in.
