Director of Platform Engineering - DevOps, Cloud

We provide truly global insight and data on thousands of products and services; The Platform Engineering Manager leads Cloud Engineering and Platform Engineering teams distributed globally, creating the conditions for engineers to do their best work. They hire, coach, and develop engineers and leaders through regular 1:1s, feedback, and performance reviews, applying servant leadership and demonstrating empathy for day-to-day engineering challenges (delivery pressure, incidents, technical debt, ambiguity) while supporting sustainable pace.

They bring a deep understanding of the problems software engineers face when building and running products—delivery friction, environment inconsistency, reliability issues, security constraints, and managing technical debt—and use that insight to shape platform roadmaps, standards, and guardrails that remove toil and accelerate delivery.

They own the team’s backlog and roadmap , aligning stakeholders on outcomes and priorities: gathering requirements and feedback, translating them into well-shaped work items, and facilitating collaboration across teams. They ensure functional and non-functional requirements are captured, and they play a key role in FinOps governance to manage public cloud costs responsibly. When critical issues occur, the Manager helps coordinate an effective response to restore service quickly and drive learning through clear follow-up actions.
People Leadership & Team Health – Hire, coach and develop engineers and Team Leaders through regular 1:1s, feedback and performance reviews; Delivery, Backlog & Stakeholder Alignment – Own and prioritise the backlog and roadmap for platform services/capabilities; manage dependencies, risks and delivery plans; and ensure services are production-ready (SLAs/SLOs, runbooks, on-call readiness, release and change practices).
Continuous Improvement – Drive continuous improvement based on data and feedback; and improve developer experience for product teams through automation, standardisation and self-service capabilities.
Learning & Technical Currency – Stay current with public cloud services, CNCF ecosystem and modern engineering practices; Technical Leadership & Platform Design – Provide technical leadership on platform and cloud solution design, applying strong software engineering principles and non-functional requirements (scalability, reliability, security, operability). Guide design reviews and technical decisions to ensure platform services/capabilities address real engineering pain points and deliver measurable value for product teams.

Reliability, Incident Response & Operations – Ensure platform services are observable, resilient and operating within agreed targets; drive root-cause analysis and follow-up actions; Understanding and experience in applying Servant Leadership principles

• Experience in platform initiatives and building self-service capabilities to improve overall engineering experience
• Experience in roadmap and backlog management in Agile delivery
• Deep knowledge of Microsoft Azure
• Knowledge in containerization technologies (including Kubernetes, Helm)
• Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform services
• Knowledge in computer networks and cyber security
• Knowledge in AI-enabled systems or workflows
• Understanding in DevOps/DevSecOps/SRE principles and practices
• Experience with git and automation pipelines platforms (Azure DevOps, GitHub)
• Experience in using project/product management tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, AHA.Skilled in planning and designing platform solutions according to functional and non-functional requirements
• Strong Software Engineering background
• Advantageous – Microsoft Azure Administrator certified
• Advantageous – Microsoft Azure DevOps Engineer certified
• Advantageous – Certification in Kubernetes
• Advantageous – Certification in Scrum Product Owner role
• Communicative: Demonstrate excellent English communication skills, both oral and written, within the team and with third parties.
