(Senior) Legal and Compliance Counsel

Through cutting-edge design and user interface innovation, the London-based company is creating an alternative ecosystem of tech products for the young and creative.
In 2023, the company launched Phone (2) to wide acclaim from its community, the media, and design enthusiasts, and in 2024, Nothing launched its CMF Phone 1, and Nothing Phone (2a) Series, with both receiving an overwhelmingly positive reception.
To date, Nothing has sold more than 7 million units worldwide across its product lines, having released five audio products, five smartphones, and two smart wearables under the Nothing and CMF by Nothing brands. All products are developed in close collaboration with the Nothing Community, which includes over 8,000 private investors and are crafted with sustainability at the forefront.
Nothing is a UK-based privately held company with backing from GV (formerly Google Ventures), EQT Ventures, C Ventures and other private investors including Tony Fadell (Principal at Future Shape & inventor of the iPod), Casey Neistat (YouTube personality and Co-founder of Beme), Kevin Lin (Co-founder of Twitch) and Steve Huffman (Co-founder and CEO of Reddit).
As part of our continuing and rapid expansion, we are now looking for a seasoned Legal Counsel, in an Independent Contributor role, to join our team in Gurgaon, India. You will be responsible for providing end to end legal support on a wide variety of commercial, operational, governance and regulatory issues. Advise on a range of general corporate matters, including, FDI, customs, brand authorisations, IP/trademark violations, etc.
Support various compliance matters, including corporate secretary, product compliance, environmental compliance, labor, consumer protection etc.
Work along with Global legal teams and other business teams on various issues affecting the Company.
Provide accurate, timely and pragmatic legal advice and ensure the team is aligned with business strategy and objectives.
Engage relevant external counsels as and when required and blend together the advice and inputs from external counsel with in-house advice, to offer cost-effective and solutions-oriented outcomes for the business.
Ensure record keeping of all the legal documents.

10+ years of post qualification legal experience. Smartphone or consumer tech industry experience is a plus. Excellent academic and leading law firm credentials. International work experience or education is a bonus though not a prerequisite.

• Past experience in a start-up environment is desirable.
• Ability to identify relevant business and legal issues proactively, define and assess the materiality of risks, find creative solutions to maintain business momentum.
• Excellent communication skills, strong command over English, both written and verbal.
• Skill and ability to identify risks, propose solutions, and explain complex legal issues and requirements to a range of internal and external audiences.
