Team Purpose

Working within Managed Services, the DBA Team currently comprises of 8 DBA's, 5 of whom specialized in Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL with the remaining 3 DBA’s working on Microsoft SQL Server. The DBA team provides remote database administration services for 800+ database instances across several different customers. Our primary support platforms are Oracle 12c/18c/19c, MySQL 4.0 through to 8, PostgreSQL 9 to 10 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 upwards until 2022. The vast majority of MSSQL are running on Windows and Oracle / MySQL and PostgreSQL instance are running primarily on Linux / UNIX, although there are some instances running on Windows platform

Role Purpose

As part of the global operations team working from within the EU, the role will be reporting into the DBA team leader. It will require interaction with various support teams within Managed Services such as OS, Storage and Virtualization team as well as non-technical teams such as Service Desk, Change Management and the Project Management Office. The role has no direct reports

Responsibilities

To support and maintain MSSQL database instances along with secondary database technologies (Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL). ·
To provide DBA Support to project, development and infrastructure teams ·
To ensure that all SLA’s are maintained ·
Respond to all MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL related incidents ·
Assist the team with proactive improvements to internal processes ·
Mentoring and coaching other members of the team ·
To participate in the change control process ·
To participate in the team’s out-of-hours on-call support rota

Specialized Skills

Extensive database administration experience in MSSQL.
Ideally the applicant will have at least 6+ years’ experience working with MSSQL and Oracle or MySQL, with at least 4 years in a production environment ·
Extensive experience of Linux / UNIX Operating Systems ·
Experience of working with High Availability solutions such as Always-On, Oracle RAC, MySQL NDB, Inorb, DRBD ·
Working knowledge of MSSQL Log shipping, Mirroring, Oracle Dataguard and ASM ·
Working knowledge of MySQL replication topologies, such as master/master, master/slave · Experience with Disaster Recovery solutions.
A good understanding of virtualization technologies ·
A good understanding of storage technologies
An aptitude for problem-solving in a multi-disciplinary environment ·
Excellent written and oral communication skills ·
Flexibility as regards to the working hours ·
Proficient in English

Certification

Certifications related to Microsoft SQL Server
Oracle certification such as OCA, OCE, OCP § MySQL certifications
Knowledge of other RDBMS such as PostgreSQL, Progress, DB2 and MS SQL Server
Experience working with SAN’s, NAS’s and DAS devices for the purpose of database storage
Understanding of ITIL processes § Knowledge of Bash & SQL
Skills in development, such as PowerShell, VB or asp.NET would be beneficial
Any knowledge of NoSQL such as MongoDB would be advantageous
