Core Responsibilities

I. Programming and Simulation

Develop CNC Programs: Write and edit G-code and M-code to direct the machine's movements.

CAD/CAM Integration: Use software like Mastercam, Delcam (PowerMill), or Siemens NX to convert 2D/3D drawings into toolpaths.

Optimization: Fine-tune feed rates, spindle speeds, and cutting depths to reduce cycle time while maintaining tool life.

Trial Runs: Perform virtual simulations to check for potential collisions or errors before the actual cut.

II. Machine Setup and Operation

Job Setting: Select and install the correct work-holding devices (vices, fixtures, or magnetic tables).

Tooling: Load the required cutting tools into the Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) and set tool offsets.

Component Loading: Secure raw materials (billets, castings, or plates) accurately on the machine bed.

Execution: Monitor the machining process to ensure there are no abnormalities like excessive vibration or tool breakage.

III. Quality Control and Maintenance

Inspection: Use precision instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and height gauges to verify the dimensions of the 'first-off' part.

Blueprint Reading: Interpret complex engineering drawings, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols.

Preventive Maintenance: Perform daily checks on coolant levels, lubrication, and chip disposal to ensure machine health.
