Position title Senior General Manager – E&I (Plant)
Department Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I)
Division / unit Plant-wide — DRI, SMS/CCM, Rolling, Captive Power Plant & utilities
Location- Bhilai, Chhattisgarh
Reports to Managing Director
Team size (direct reports) Entire plant E&I organisation, incl. section Sr. Managers/engineers (size to confirm)
2. ROLE BRIEF (→ feeds the agency JD)
Role summary (1–2 lines) Head all electrical, instrumentation and automation across the integrated
plant — DRI, steel melting (SMS/CCM), rolling (strip & pipe), the Captive
Power Plant and utilities — including the planned upgrade to a 132 kV grid
power connection, plus E&I for expansion/capex projects. Owns plant-wide
power reliability, automation, energy efficiency, electrical safety and the E&I
organisation.
Key responsibilities 1. Lead plant-wide E&I maintenance strategy
(preventive/predictive/breakdown) across DRI, SMS/CCM, rolling, CPP and
utilities for maximum uptime and reliability
2. Own Captive Power Plant electrical, power distribution and grid interface
— generation, HT/EHV switchyard, transformers, load management; and
lead the planned upgrade to a 132 kV grid connection (EHV substation,
CEIG/CSPTCL approvals, commissioning)
3. Drive automation & instrumentation modernisation — mill drives,
PLC/DCS, process controls — and energy-efficiency (specific energy
consumption)
4. Lead E&I for expansion/capex projects — engineering, OEM/vendor
selection, installation and commissioning of new lines/equipment
5. Ensure electrical safety & statutory compliance (CEIG/Electrical
Inspectorate, earthing, interlocks, energy audits); manage E&I budget,
spares and vendors
6. Build and lead the plant E&I organisation — section Sr.
Managers/engineers, capability development, and KPIs/MIS
Skill 1 — Technical Plant electrical & power systems (CPP, EHV/132 kV switchyard, HT, drives,
PLC/DCS automation)
Skill 2 — Domain Integrated steel-plant E&I leadership + capex projects
Skill 3 — Behavioural Organisational leadership & reliability/cost ownership
Top KRAs (optional) 1. Plant power reliability & equipment availability (uptime)
2. Specific energy consumption, E&I cost & capex-project delivery (incl. 132
kV connection)

Qualification — Must-have B.E./B.Tech in Electrical
Qualification — Good-to-have Electrical Supervisor / competency certificate (CEIG); energy-audit
certification; MBA (Operations)

Experience (years + industry) 18–25 years E&I in an integrated steel plant, incl. plant-wide E&I leadership,
captive power plant and EHV substation
Must-have screening filters 1. 18–25 years E&I in an integrated steel plant with plant-wide leadership
2. Strong across SMS/CCM, rolling and Captive Power Plant electrical
(generation, HT/switchyard, drives, automation)
3. EHV experience — 132 kV substation/switchyard commissioning and
O&M, incl. liaison with the transmission utility (CSPTCL) and CEIG
4. Has led E&I for expansion/capex projects (installation & commissioning)
and a large E&I team
5. Willing to relocate to Bhilai/Durg
Good-to-have DRI/sponge-iron E&I exposure; grid power procurement / open-access;
energy-efficiency / SEC-improvement track record; PLC/DCS modernisation
