Faculty Position Information

Basic Responsibilities

● Facilitate academic approval for new/revised courses.
● Oversee course development of courses adapted to the online environment and ensure CGPS Online Course Standards are met.
● Hire and supervise all program faculty, both full- and part-time.
● Teach in the B.S. in Criminal Justice online program.
● Oversee admission and student affairs for the program.

● Facilitate academic approval for new/revised courses.
● Prepare appropriate documents for Academic Councils when needed, serve on Academic Councils as a member or chair as needed.
● Collaborate with various departments for the adaptation of existing courses to the online modality.
● Lead the faculty in developing plans to further the purpose, mission, vision, and goals of the Criminal Justice program
● Oversee course development of courses adapted to the online environment and ensure CGPS Online Course Standards are met.
● Work with Academic Quality Assurance to identify subject matter experts, provide curriculum mapping information and oversight of the course development process.
● Uphold the CGPS Online Course Standards and clearly communicate course expectations and course development process with SMEs.
● Hire and supervise all program faculty, both full- and part-time. Review and approve standards for hiring B.S. Criminal Justice online faculty. Screen and interview potential faculty and make hiring recommendations to the Dean’s Office.
● Work with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and ACU Dallas Academic Operations to review credentials for faculty and verify faculty are credentialed to teach the courses to which they are assigned.
● Review course evaluations and provide feedback to faculty in a timely manner.
● Meet with faculty to develop annual goals and perform annual evaluations. Mentor and lead faculty to ensure they can effectively instruct, engage and retain students.
● Maintain the adjunct pool by hiring additional part-time faculty when needed and removing faculty as needed.
● Supervise faculty and initiate any improvement plans or performance initiatives
● Make recommendations to the Dean of the College of Leadership and Professional Studies for any disciplinary action (including terminations) and for merit increases.
● Schedule and lead faculty meetings.
● Develop and coordinate training for all faculty, including part-time.
● Work closely with Dallas Operations to monitor faculty workload and assign faculty to sections.
● Work with faculty to ensure course grades are entered before the session deadline.
● Teach in the B.S. in Criminal Justice online program and provide administrative functions.
● Teach 30 credit hours per academic year.
● Administer and provide instruction in assigned courses. Duties include, but are not limited to, placing students in groups for assignments/discussions, conducting periodic synchronous interaction sessions, facilitating and grading all assignments in a timely manner and providing rich and timely feedback on student work.
● Provide timely and helpful answers to students’ inquiries regarding course material or academic matters.
● Complete Outcomes Assessment Report and communicate findings to appropriate administrators.
● Oversee student affairs for the program and communicate with Admissions.
● Work collaboratively with the CGPS Dean’s Office to understand academic policies and help develop academic policies when needed.
● Work with ACU Dallas Enrollment to communicate program outcomes, program distinctives and other information that may inform the enrollment team.
● Work with ACU Dallas Student Services to provide program and course-specific insight.
● Handle student concerns or student complaints in a timely manner and make decisions about whether to escalate to the Dean’s Office.

Physical Requirements:

Majority of work is performed in front of a computer and on the telephone; must have the ability to use the computer and remain stationary for long periods of time. Manage conversations in person, online and by telephone.
Limited travel – locations vary and some overnight travel may be necessary. Work well under pressure and manage stress well.
Communicate clearly: speak, read, write, and hear clearly to perform essential functions.

Qualifications

Professional

● Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice or a closely related field such as Juris Doctor or Public Administration. Masters in Criminal Justice may be considered with field experience.
● Teaching experience or administrative experience in higher education preferred.
● Relevant research completed in the last ten years [e.g. publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, program evaluation reports, etc.], preferred.
● Experience teaching, designing and developing online coursework.
● Computer literate in software and internet-based applications.
Personal
● Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
