About the job
We are a US-based financial services company specializing in merchant cash advance (MCA) and small-business financing. We are building an in-house India-based legal recovery & collections team to support our US operations. We are looking for a highly motivated LLB/LLM professional with commercial debt recovery, financial collections, litigation, or creditor-side legal experience. This is not a traditional consumer collections position. You will be working primarily with US small businesses, business owners, guarantors, attorneys, and commercial financing obligations.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Review defaulted MCA and commercial financing accounts.2. Review contracts, payment histories, guarantees and supporting documentation.
3. Identify the reason for default and determine the appropriate recovery strategy.
4. Prepare professional demand letters, default notices and legal correspondence.
5. Communicate with merchants, business owners, guarantors and opposing counsel.
6. Negotiate settlements and structured repayment arrangements.
7. Prepare settlement agreements and payment arrangements.
8. Maintain detailed account and legal documentation.
9. Identify accounts that should be escalated to outside US litigation counsel.
10. Prepare complete litigation/recovery packages for US attorneys.
11. Coordinate with outside US counsel regarding litigation and enforcement.
12. Track lawsuits, judgments, settlements and recovery status.
13. Research businesses and publicly available information relevant to recovery.
14. Assist with identifying potential fraudulent activity, business closures, asset movement and other recovery concerns.
15. Maintain accurate collection and legal case-management records.
16. Develop standardized procedures and templates for the company's recovery department.
17. Work directly with US management to improve recovery rates and reduce legal expenses.

1. LLB or LLM qualified.
2. 1 year or more of experience preferred.
3. Experienced in commercial debt recovery, banking recovery, NBFC collections, fintech collections, commercial litigation or creditor-side legal work.
4. Have worked with US attorneys or US law firms.
5. Extremely strong in written English.
6. Comfortable drafting formal legal notices and business correspondence.
7. Strong negotiator.
8. Comfortable speaking with business owners and attorneys.
9. Highly organized and detail-oriented.
10. Comfortable using Excel, CRM and legal case-management systems.
