About the Role

Mentor Match is looking for a Scriptwriter who can turn ideas into scroll-stopping video scripts the kind that hook viewers in the first 3 seconds and keep them watching. You'll own the full script lifecycle: research, structure, writing, and iteration based on performance data. This isn't just a writing role it's part strategist, part storyteller, part data-reader.

What You'll Do

• Research trending formats, competitor content, and platform-specific hook patterns (Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn video) before writing a single line
• Study audience pain points, FAQs, and objections from our tutoring/parent community to find angles that actually resonate
• Write scripts with strong hooks (first 1-3 seconds), clear narrative arcs, and a payoff that matches the promise of the hook
• A/B test hook variations and iterate scripts based on watch-time, drop-off, and hook rate data
• Collaborate with the video/creative team to ensure scripts translate well visually, not just on paper
• Maintain a swipe file / hook bank of high-performing patterns across the industry (education, edtech, parenting content)
• Adapt tone and structure across formats testimonial-style, educational, myth-busting, POV, founder-voice, etc.
• Track script performance post-publish and build a feedback loop into future writing

What Good Research Looks Like (so applicants know what we mean)

• Pulling 15-20 top-performing videos in the education/parenting/edtech space weekly and reverse-engineering why the hook worked (curiosity gap? pattern interrupt? bold claim? relatability?)
• Reading comments sections to mine real language parents/students use not marketing-speak
• Tracking hook rate (3-second view rate) and average watch time per script, not just likes/shares
• Knowing the difference between a hook that gets attention and one that gets the right attention (i.e., attracts people who'd actually consider Mentor Match)

You're a Strong Fit If You

• Have 1-3+ years writing for short-form video (UGC, reels, ads, or organic social)
• Can point to scripts you've written with measurable hook rate or retention improvements
• Understand platform algorithms well enough to write for them, not against them
• Are comfortable being data-informed you don't just "feel" a hook works, you can explain why using research or past performance
• Write conversationally, not like a brochure Mentor Match's voice is warm, real, and relatable to parents and students
• Are curious by default you'd rather spend an hour scrolling competitor content than skip straight to writing

Bonus Points

• Experience writing for edtech, parenting, or education-adjacent brands
• Familiarity with tools like TikTok Creative Center, VidIQ, or similar trend-research tools
• Basic understanding of storyboard/shot planning to write scripts that are shoot-ready
