Inpatient Medical Coder - CDI & Workqueue Management

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Inpatient Medical Coder to join our Revenue Cycle team. This role goes beyond standard production coding — the right candidate will be responsible for managing daily workqueue inventory, prioritizing accounts by payer and dollar value, coordinating with CDI teams, and ensuring timely and accurate billing across inpatient service lines. Key Responsibilities

Workqueue & Inventory Management

• Review and manage daily workqueue inventory including high dollar, low dollar, and pending hold accounts
• Plan daily production targets based on volume inflow and payer priority
• Monitor and clear holding accounts on a daily basis to ensure timely billing
• Provide regular queue and priority account updates to team leads and management

Inpatient Coding & Account Processing

• Process inpatient accounts with primary focus on Medicare, Medicare Replacement, and Date of Service (DOS) priority accounts
• Ensure accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT code assignment based on clinical documentation
• Review and action high priority accounts shared by management within the same shift
• Maintain high coding accuracy and productivity standards consistently

CDI Coordination

• Identify and route CDI mismatch accounts to the CDI team on a daily basis
• Ensure appropriate processing and resolution of CDI-flagged accounts
• Participate in weekly CDI team coding level 10 calls to align on documentation and coding standards
• Collaborate with the CDI team to address documentation gaps and coding queries

Meetings & Communication

• Attend POC meetings conducted three times a week
• Participate in workqueue calls and weekly manager meetings held every Wednesday
• Maintain clear and timely communication with internal stakeholders on account status, priority escalations, and queue updates

Required Qualifications

Active CPC or CCS certification through AAPC

Minimum 3 years of hands-on inpatient coding experience

Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and inpatient coding guidelines

Experience working with Medicare and Medicare Replacement payer accounts

Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize large workqueue inventories

Familiarity with CDI workflows and mismatch account processing

Strong communication skills with the ability to provide structured updates to leadership

Preferred Experience

• High dollar and priority account management in an inpatient setting
• Experience working within structured workqueue environments
• Familiarity with holding account management and timely billing workflows
• Prior coordination with CDI teams in a hospital or large health system setting
