Design Estimation Engineer creates accurate cost projections and materials lists based on technical drawings and blueprints. They bridge the gap between engineering design and project budgeting, optimizing costs through value engineering to ensure project profitability and bid competitiveness.Role OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Design Estimation Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for evaluating technical blueprints, developing engineering designs, and generating precise cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment. You will play a critical role in bridging conceptual design with project execution, ensuring that our bids are both highly competitive and profitable.Key ResponsibilitiesBlueprint & Specification Analysis: Review architectural/engineering drawings, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), and technical specifications to deeply understand project scope and requirements.Quantity Take-offs & BOQ Preparation: Calculate detailed material quantities and prepare accurate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and cost breakdowns.Design & Optimization: Develop practical, functional, and cost-effective engineering designs using CAD or 3D modeling software.Costing & Value Engineering: Calculate labor, material, and overhead costs. Propose cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality or safety.Vendor & Subcontractor Collaboration: Request quotations from suppliers, analyze vendor bids, and negotiate pricing to lock in favorable supply rates.Tender & Proposal Development: Compile comprehensive tender packages, commercial proposals, and bid documentation.Cross-functional Alignment: Coordinate continuously with the Sales, Procurement, and Project Execution teams to track project budgets and ensure on-time delivery.Qualifications & RequirementsEducation: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Architectural Engineering.Experience: 3+ years of proven experience in design, drafting, and cost estimation within the engineering/construction sector.Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of estimation platforms and design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, or specialized ERP/estimating software.Analytical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, macros, cost models).Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present data clearly to both clients and upper management.
