Engineering Manager - Java Development

Location : GurgaonWork Mode : HybridExperience : 14 - 18 YearsNotice Period : Immediate Joiners / Candidates with notice period up to September end preferredAbout the Role : We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager - Java to lead high-performing engineering teams and drive the design, development, and delivery of scalable, reliable, and high-performance technology solutions.The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java, System Architecture, System Design, Distributed Systems, and engineering leadership, with a proven track record of building scalable enterprise-grade applications and leading technically strong engineering teams.This role requires a hands-on technology leader who can work closely with product, engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders while driving technical excellence, architecture decisions, and successful delivery.Key Responsibilities : - Lead and mentor engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.- Drive the architecture, design, development, and delivery of scalable and highly available systems.- Provide technical leadership across Java-based applications, distributed systems, microservices, and backend platforms.- Define and review system architecture, technical designs, and engineering best practices.- Own key technical decisions related to scalability, reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.- Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.- Conduct and participate in architecture and code reviews, ensuring adherence to engineering standards.- Identify technical risks, bottlenecks, and opportunities for optimization and proactively address them.- Drive engineering processes around development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.- Build and maintain a strong engineering team through mentoring, performance management, and talent development.- Stay updated with emerging technologies and evaluate their applicability to the organization's technology ecosystem.Required Skills & Experience : - 14 - 18 years of overall experience in software engineering, with significant experience in technical leadership and people management.- Strong hands-on expertise in Java/J2EE and backend application development.- Strong understanding of System Design and System Architecture.- Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.- Strong knowledge of Microservices Architecture, REST APIs, databases, caching, messaging, and asynchronous systems.- Experience working with high-volume, scalable, and highly available applications.- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, engineering best practices, and design patterns.- Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.Tech Stack : - Java / J2EE, Spring / Spring Boot, Microservices, Distributed Systems, System Design & Architecture, RESTful APIs, SQL / NoSQL Databases, Caching & Messaging Systems, Cloud Technologies, CI/CD and DevOps practicesWhat We're Looking For : - Strong technology ownership and architectural thinking- Ability to balance hands-on technical depth with people leadership- Experience solving complex engineering and scalability challenges- Strong execution and delivery orientation- Ability to build, mentor, and lead high-performing engineering teams (ref:hirist.tech)
