Job Purpose: The Shop Supervisor / Production Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and controlling day-to-day shop floor activities in a modular manufacturing yard. The role ensures that fabrication, assembly, installation, and related production activities are completed safely, efficiently, on time, within quality standards, and in accordance with project requirements. - Supervise daily shop floor operations to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
- Review work orders, drawings, material availability, and manpower allocation before execution.
- Ensure efficient workflow across assigned shop areas.
- Monitor production progress and take corrective action to avoid delays.
- Coordinate with planning and engineering teams to resolve technical or schedule issues.
- Supervise shop supervisors, foremen, technicians, welders, fitters, fabricators, and helpers.
- Assign tasks to teams according to priority, skill level, and production targets.
- Ensure proper use of tools, equipment, and machinery in the shop.
- Monitor labor productivity and performance on a daily basis.
- Maintain discipline, attendance, and good housekeeping in the work area.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Check the quality of fabrication, assembly, welding, fitting, and finishing activities.
- Coordinate with QA/QC inspectors to resolve defects and non-conformities.
- Ensure rework is minimized and quality standards are achieved consistently.
- Enforce all health, safety, and environmental regulations within the shop.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and daily safety checks.
- Ensure proper PPE usage and safe work practices at all times.
- Report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses immediately.
- Participate in safety audits and corrective action implementation.
- Verify material issuance and ensure correct materials are used for each job.
- Coordinate with stores and logistics for material availability and movement.
- Monitor wastage and ensure optimal use of raw materials and consumables.
- Track tools, equipment, jigs, fixtures, and consumables used in production.
- Liaise with production planning, engineering, procurement, maintenance, QA/QC, and HSE teams.
- Report daily production status, delays, manpower issues, and technical concerns to management.
- Support resolution of fabrication and assembly issues through coordination with engineering.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and workers regarding targets and work instructions.
- Maintain daily production records, progress reports, manpower reports, and material usage records.
- Record defects, rework, breakdowns, and production losses.
- Support preparation of weekly/monthly production reports.
- Ensure all required checklists, permits, and quality documents are completed properly.
- Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements in productivity, quality, and safety.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives and waste reduction activities.
- Participate in root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement corrective measures.
- Encourage team training and skill development.
- Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Additional technical certification in fabrication, welding, manufacturing, or shop management is an advantage.
- 4-8 years of experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, modular construction, or industrial yard environment.
- Experience in shop floor supervision, production execution, and manpower handling.
- Knowledge of modular fabrication/assembly processes is preferred.
- Experience working with QA/QC and HSE requirements in a manufacturing yard.
- Strong shop floor supervision and leadership skills
- Good understanding of production processes and workflow control
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of fabrication, welding, assembly, and manufacturing operations
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Planning, organizing, and prioritization abilities
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Awareness of safety standards and quality systems
- Proficiency in MS Office and basic production reporting tools
- Production targets achieved on time
- Quality compliance and low rework rates

- Based in a modular manufacturing yard and shop floor environment.
- May require shift work, overtime, and weekend support depending on project requirements.
- Frequent presence in production areas, fabrication shops, and assembly zones.
