Senior Scientist - Scientific Data & ML Enablement

Amgen seeks a Senior Scientist to design and manage scientific datasets that enable machine learning applications in large molecule discovery. The role involves building scalable data models, creating ML-ready datasets, and establishing governance practices to support AI-driven research. Candidates should hold a PhD with 5+ years of experience, or equivalent education and industry tenure, with expertise in data engineering, scientific informatics, and life sciences data.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain scalable data models supporting machine learning and scientific workflows
- Create ML-ready datasets for model training, validation, and deployment
- Implement metadata, lineage, and governance frameworks to improve data quality and traceability
- Partner with scientists and engineers to translate experimental workflows into structured data assets
- Develop and optimize data transformation pipelines for machine learning and analytics use cases
Requirements
- PhD with 5+ years relevant experience, or Master's with 8+ years, or Bachelor's with 10+ years
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and modern data engineering platforms
- Experience designing data models for scientific, analytical, or machine learning applications
- Understanding of metadata, data lineage, governance, and reproducibility practices
- Experience with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, genomics, or life science datasets
- Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
