Java Backend Technical Lead

Job Title : Tech Lead Backend (Java/Spring Boot)Location : RemoteExperience : 4 - 6 YearsEmployment Type : Full-TimeAbout NxtPe :NxtPe is building next-generation FinTech and InsureTech solutions for emerging markets across Africa. We are looking for an experienced Backend Tech Lead who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, building scalable systems, and mentoring high-performing teams in a fast-paced startup environment.Key Responsibilities :- Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable backend applications.- Architect secure, reliable, and high-performance microservices using Java and Spring Boot.- Mentor and guide backend engineers through code reviews and technical discussions.- Collaborate with Product, Frontend, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality software.- Define engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines.- Optimize application performance, scalability, and system reliability.- Design and maintain RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services.- Drive technical decision-making and participate in architecture reviews.- Troubleshoot production issues and ensure system stability.- Contribute to hiring and technical interviews for backend engineers.Required Skills & Qualifications :- 4+ years of hands-on backend development experience.- Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.- Mandatory experience working in a startup environment.- Strong understanding of Microservices Architecture.- Excellent knowledge of REST APIs.- Experience with Hibernate/JPA.- Strong understanding of SQL databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.- Experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Redis is an advantage.- Experience with message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.- Strong knowledge of system design, scalability, and distributed systems.- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.- Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP.- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based development workflows.- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
